CAN'T SAY SPEAKING GAME & FLUENCY TRAINING

RULES AND EXPLANATION FOR PLAYING AT HOME OR AT THE OFFICE

THE PURPOSE OF THIS GAME IS TO DEVELOP FLUENCY AND TO IMPROVE SPECIFIC VOCABULARY AND TO GAIN CONFIDENCE WHEN SPEAKING. GOOD FOR ANY LEVEL - EVEN NATIVE SPEAKERS. GREAT FOR BEGINNERS BECAUSE YOU DON'T NEED TO USE FULL SENTENCES. THESE CATEGORIES HAVE MORE THAN 10 WORDS EACH. THEY RANGE FROM 30 TO 1000 IN EACH CATEGORY. THERE ARE ABOUT 200 CATEGORIES. SOME CATEGORIES HAVE TWO LEVELS - EASY AND HARD. IN THE HARD ONE, THE RULES CAN CHANGE SLIGHTLY, LIKE ALLOWING THE USE OF BODY LANGUAGE TO HELP MAKE IT EASIER. IF A WORD IS TOO HARD, DON'T WORRY - JUST SKIP TO THE NEXT WORD. THE IDEA IS TO KEEP SPEAKING ALL THE TIME.

1. PAUSE VIDEO ON EACH IMAGE AND PLAY FOR AS LONG AS YOU WANT. WITH A LIMIT OF FOR EXAMPLE 1 MINUTE OR WITHOUT ANY TINME LIMIT AT ALL - PLAY UNTIL THE GUESSER GUESSES THE WORD.

2. YOU CAN HAVE TWO GUESSERS PLAYING AGAINST EACH OTHER AND WHOEVER GUESSES THE BLUE WORD(S) FIRST WINS A POINT.

3. THERE ARE 5 IMAGES, THEN A 10-SECOND BREAK, THEN 5 MORE IMAGES.

4. WHEN THE CLUE-GIVERS (HELPERS) GIVE CLUES, THEY MUST NOT SAY ANY OF THE WORDS IN THE IMAGE. BUT AFTER THE GUESSER OR ONE OF THE GUESSERS HAPPENS TO SAY ONE (OF THE BLACK WORDS), THE CLUE-GIVERS ARE THEN ALLOWED TO SAY THAT WORD. OR THIS RULE CAN BE KEPT STRICT AND THE CLUE-GIVERS ARE NEVER ALLOWED TO SAY ANY OF THE WORDS ON THE SCREEN.

5. NO BODY LANGUAGE IS ALLOWED UNLESS THE CATEGORY IS "HARD".

6. CLUE-GIVERS MUST NOT SAY WHAT THE BLUE WORD OR BLACK WORDS SOUND LIKE.

7. CLUE-GIVERS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SPELL THE WORDS OR SAY THE FIRST LETTER OR THE NUMBER OF LETTERS.

8. THE GUESSER MUST HAVE HIS BACK TO THE SCREEN SO HE DOESN'T SEE ANY OF THE WORDS.

9. ANOTHER WAY TO PLAY IS TO WATCH ME PLAY THIS GAME AND GUESS AT THE SAME TIME AND TRY TO GUESS FASTER THAN I DO.

10. ADJUST THE RULES TO YOUR TASTE.

11. THE BLUE LINE REPRESENTS THE BLUE WORD / NAME. THIS SHOWS COLLOCATIONS FOR THE BENEFIT OF ENGLISH LEARNERS.

12. FLAGS REPRESENT WHERE A WORD IS COMMONLY USED.
